Initiative to Let Dublin Decide on Future Surrounding Land- Dublin Ranch
Former mayor Janet Lockhart is spear heading the initiative that would call on residents to decide the future of the land around our city. Greg Tomlinson, Dublin School district Trustee, Mona Lisa Ballesteros-Patel, Dublin Parks and Community Service Commissioner and Claudia McCormick, former Vice-Mayor and City Councilwomen, filed the petition. If it qualifies for the ballot it would direct the city to take the necessary steps to bring the land adjacent to the eastern border of Dublin under Dublin’s control. According to the press release there will be important restrictions put in place including 60% open space and protected hillsides.
Livermore has recently applied to LAFCO- the state government agency that makes land use decisions between cities, to put this land in its control. Since Livermore allowed a gambling casino to be built close to the Dublin Border, the coalition feels that Dublin needs to control the land.
The Let Dublin Decide Initiative would require a master plan for the entire area before anything could be built. The plan would have to go through the city approval process, including a citizen’s oversight committee.
